Do You Know
Q1. Adolescence
Adolescence is the stage of life between childhood and adulthood (usually 11–19 years). During this time, the body undergoes many physical and emotional changes such as increase in height, development of reproductive organs, and hormonal changes. These changes make the body capable of reproduction.
Q2. Growth Hormone
The Pituitary gland secretes the growth hormone.
This hormone controls the growth of bones, muscles, and overall body development. It is called the “master gland” because it also regulates other endocrine glands in the body.
Q3. Menarche
Menarche is the first occurrence of menstruation in girls, usually happening during puberty (around 11–14 years). It indicates that the reproductive system has started functioning and the body is becoming capable of reproduction.
Q4. Boys
Adam’s apple is more prominent in boys because their voice box (larynx) grows larger during puberty. This growth makes the voice deeper and causes the visible bulge in the neck known as Adam’s apple.
Q5. 23 pairs of chromosomes
Human cells contain 23 pairs (total 46) of chromosomes in their nucleus. Chromosomes carry genetic material (DNA) that determines inherited traits such as eye color, height, and other characteristics. One set comes from the mother and the other from the father.
