Do You Know
1. Gas fills the container
NCERT Reference: Chapter 1 (Matter in Our Surroundings)
- Description: The particles of gas have negligible forces of attraction between them and possess high kinetic energy. Because of this, gas particles move rapidly in all directions and hit the walls of the vessel, completely filling the container in which they are kept. They have neither a fixed shape nor a fixed volume.
2. Balanced Force
NCERT Reference: Chapter 8 (Force and Laws of Motion)

- Description: When multiple forces act on an object and their resultant (net force) is zero, they are called balanced forces. Balanced forces cannot change the state of rest or motion of an object; they can only change its shape. Therefore, there is no change in the object’s motion.
3. Valency
NCERT Reference: Chapter 4 (Structure of the Atom)
- Description: The electrons present in the outermost shell of an atom are known as valence electrons. The number of electrons gained, lost, or shared so as to make the octet of electrons in the outermost shell gives us the combining capacity of the element, which is called Valency.
4. Unit of Acceleration
NCERT Reference: Chapter 7 (Motion)
- Description: Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity per unit of time. $$a = \frac{v – u}{t}$$ Since the unit of velocity is $$m/s$$ and time is $$s$$, the SI unit of acceleration is $$m/s^2$$ (meters per second squared).
5. Meristematic Tissue
NCERT Reference: Chapter 6 (Tissues)

- Description: The growth of plants occurs only in certain specific regions. This is because the dividing tissue, also known as meristematic tissue, is located only at these points. These cells are very active and divide continuously to help in the growth (length and girth) of the plant.
