1. Boiling (Bulk Phenomenon)

Boiling is the process in which a liquid changes into gas throughout the entire liquid.

Why it is called a bulk phenomenon:

  • The change occurs in the whole liquid, not just on the surface
  • Bubbles are formed inside the liquid during boiling

Important Points:

  • Boiling takes place at a fixed temperature called the boiling point
  • Heat energy is required for boiling

Difference from evaporation:

  • Boiling → happens throughout the liquid
  • Evaporation → happens only at the surface

Example:
Water boiling in a kettle at 100°C.

2. Unit of Power – Watt (W)

Power measures how quickly work is done or energy is used.

Formula:
Power = Work ÷ Time

SI Unit: Watt (W)

Understanding Power:

  • Higher power means faster work
  • Lower power means slower work

Examples:

  • Electric bulb
  • Fan
  • Heater

Electrical appliances are often rated in watts.

3. Charge on Neutron – Neutral

A neutron is a subatomic particle present inside the nucleus of an atom.

Charge of neutron:

  • It has no electrical charge, so it is neutral.

Comparison with other particles:

  • Proton → positive charge
  • Electron → negative charge
  • Neutron → no charge

Importance:
Neutrons help maintain the stability of the atomic nucleus.

4. Types of Acceleration

Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes with time.

Formula:
Acceleration = Change in velocity ÷ Time

Acceleration can be:

  • Positive → speed increases
  • Negative → speed decreases
  • Zero → speed remains constant

Understanding:
An object may speed up, slow down, or move with constant speed.

Examples:

  • Car speeding up → positive acceleration
  • Braking vehicle → negative acceleration
  • Train moving at constant speed → zero acceleration

5. Function of Phloem (Transport of Food)

Phloem is a plant tissue responsible for transporting food from leaves to different parts of the plant.

Main Functions:

  • Carries glucose and nutrients
  • Supplies food to roots, stems, and fruits

Direction of movement:
Food can move both upward and downward in phloem.

Difference from Xylem:

  • Phloem → transports food
  • Xylem → transports water and minerals

Example:
Food prepared in leaves during photosynthesis is transported through phloem.
